Lady Hardinge Medical College is a premier All girls Medical College located in Cannaughtplace ,New Delhi .It is associated with SmtSuchetaKriplani Hospital, Ram ManoharLohia Hospital and Kalavati Saran Childrens Hospital .LHMC is under the Ministry of Health and Family welfare ,NirmanBhavan,New Delhi Every year 200 girl students are admitted to the MBBS course through the Delhi PMT medical Entrance Exam ( soon to be clubbed with All India PMT exams). There are post Graduate seats in various medical specialities. PG entrance admits both males and females.Faculty appointment ( presently faculty ) is through the Union Public Service Commission ( UPSC).
The attention of Lady Hardinge(wife of Lord Hardinge) was drawn to the lack of facilities for imparting medical education to women in India. There is no any separate medical institution for women to train them as Doctors , with the result that only 89 female students in year 1984 were receiving medical education , of whom 78 were Christians and 9 Perisian's , all these women were studying in coeducation government colleges in madras, Bombay, Calcutta and Lahore.
The college campus is pretty big as there’s a hostel and hospital along with the lecture rooms. As it’s a government college, the overall infrastructure is not appealing especially the road from the main gate to the college building which is loaded with several bamboos and iron pipes. The lecture rooms are neat and clean with the facility of air-conditioners. Labs are well maintained and well equipped with all the apparatus. There are truckloads of books in the library and hence issuing a book which you need is not a problem. There is no wi-fi connectivity in the campus and hostels.
