Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm. & D.Pharm.)
The Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm. or B-Pharm) degree and Diploma of Pharmacy (D.Pharm. or D-Pharm) are common pharmacology programmes. The B.Pharm. degree must be accredited by the All Indian Council of Technical Education (AICTE) or the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI). The bachelor’s course is a four and a half year programme, while the diploma course is a two-year program. Both require a six-month internship.

Eligibility criteria to pursue B.Pharm.

B.Pharm. admission requirements are as follows: applicants must be at least 17 years of age at time of admission, and are required to complete the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC), or 10+2 exam in the science stream. Necessary subjects are biology, chemistry and physics. A minimum of 50 percent marks in each course is required. Admission requirements vary between institutions, so in order to be considered a top candidate for admission, it is also important to get a high rank in the state or institutional entrance examination.

Eligibility criteria to pursue D.Pharm.

D.Pharm. admission requirements include that applicants must be at least 17 years of age at time of admission, and are required to complete the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or 10+2 exam in the science stream. Required subjects are physics, chemistry and biology or mathematics. A minimum of 40 percent marks are needed in each course. The cost for both B.Pharm. and D.Pharm. is varies based on institution.

B.Sc. Nursing

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing) is an undergraduate medical programme. Nursing education is monitored by the Indian Nursing Council (INC). The B.Sc. Nursing curriculum focuses on teaching students how to care for patients so as to “attain optimum health for all members of...society.” They do this by targeting specific medical principles, such as assessment of health based on physical, biological, and social sciences; analysis of health problems in a systematic way; and proper administration of medical [nursing] services to improve the health of patients.


Eligibility criteria to pursue B.Sc. Nursing

The length of the program is about four years for the Basic B.Sc. Nursing degree. The total cost of the program varies based on the institution, but it generally falls between Rs. 60,000 and Rs. 2,00,000. Requirements for the B.Sc. in Nursing generally include that students be 17 years of age at time of admission and that he/she must pass the 10+2 Exam in the science stream with physics, chemistry, biology and English. A minimum of 45 percent marks in each course is needed and he/she must pass and well in the university’s entrance exam.

Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)

The Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) focuses on the study of the combination of modern medicine and Ayurvedic medicine. Ayurvedic and other alternative medical education in India is monitored by the Central Council of Indian Medicine, a governmental division. The program covers such subjects as human anatomy and physiology; metaphysics; the use of mineral and animal products as medicine and herbal-mineral medications. The length of the program is about five and a half years, on average, of which one year is dedicated to an internship.

Eligibility criteria to pursue BAMS

The cost of the program varies based on institution. At the Indian Medical Care Institute in New Delhi, for example, the average annual cost is Rs. 24,000. Students interested in pursuing a BAMS degree in India must be at least 17 years of age at time of admission, and are required to complete the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC), or 10+2 exam, in the science stream, with biology, chemistry, and physics. Students should have a minimum of 50 percent marks in each course. Admission requirements vary slightly between institutions, so in order to be considered a top candidate for admission, it is also important to rank well in the entrance examination.

Bachelor in Unani Medicine (BUMS)

The Bachelor in Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) is also known as Kamil-e-Tib-o-Jarahat. This program is yet another option for those electing to get an undergraduate degree in alternative medicine. BUMS, like all alternative medical undergraduate programs that fall into the AYUSH category - Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy - is monitored by the Central Council of Indian Medicine. Unani focuses on four different treatment therapies in its field: massage, diuresis, Turkish bath, pharmaco-therapy, diet therapy, purging, regimental therapy venasection, exercise; use of herbal, animal and mineral drugs, and surgery.

Eligibility criteria to pursue BUMS

The length of this program is about five and a half years, including one year for a compulsory rotating internship. The cost varies by institution. The requirements for admission into this programme are that the student has taken and passed (with at least 50 percent marks) the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or 10+2 in the science stream. Necessary subjects are biology, chemistry, physics, Urdu and English. Another way to have the necessary educational background is to pass the Pre-Tib one-year exam. The student must also be at least 17 years of age at time of admission for the BUMS course. For some institutions, the applicant must also submit a certificate that he/she has passed the 8th Class Examination with Hindi as well.

Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT)

A Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) programme focuses on teaching students how to give functional abilities and maximum movement to patients. Students may learn how to diagnose, treat and prevent physical damage or injuries that inhibit mobility and/or muscular, neurological, and other types of physiological functionality. A physiotherapist’s job requires constant interaction with his/her patient and his/her body, so those interested in pursuing a BPT should have great interpersonal skills.

Eligibility criteria to pursue BPT

The length of the program is generally four and a half years (the last six months are dedicated to an internship). The cost of the programme varies by institution. For example, the program fee at the Indian Institute of Health Education and Research in Patna is Rs. 60,000. A BPT costs Rs. 45,250 at The Oxford College in Bangalore, Rs. 2,00,000 at Arihant Institute of Paramedical Sciences, and Rs. 2,92,500 at Punjabi University Patiala, in Punjab. The requirements for a BPT include completing the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or 10+2 exam in the science stream. Mandatory subjects are physics, chemistry, biology and English, with a minimum of 45 to 50 percent marks in each course. Applicants must also be at least 17 years of age at time of admission, and must take an entrance exam.

Medical Laboratory Technology (BMLT)

The Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology (BMLT) teaches students how to use medical, technological equipment in a laboratory setting in order to treat, diagnose and prevent diseases with the aid of clinical laboratory testing. Students may learn how to do tasks such as analyze blood-work, do blood typing, study human tissue and examine chemicals. Learning these skills and their application in the real world can provide you with the ability to find employment in labs within hospitals, research facilities and private institutions. Lab technicians are needed on a regular basis.


Eligibility criteria to pursue BMLT  

The length of the BMLT programme is about three to four years. The cost of the program varies by institute. For example, the programme fee at S.S. Institute of Medical Sciences Management Technology & Research in Agra, is Rs. 61,800. The programme fee at Paramedical College in Durgapur, is one payment of Rs. 1,00,000. The requirements for admission are passing the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or 10+2 exam in the science stream. A minimum of 50 percent marks in each course is required. Alternatively, you can complete a recognised vocational course with laboratory technology as a subject.

Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & AH)

 

The Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & AH) degree falls within the Veterinary Education part of Medical Education in India, and is therefore monitored by the Veterinary Council of India. This programme focuses primarily on veterinary anatomy, veterinary physiology and biochemistry, and livestock production and management. The length of this course is about five years, including six months for a mandatory internship. The cost varies based on the institution.


Eligibility criteria to pursue B.V.Sc. & AH

The requirements for the BVSc & AH program are as follows: student must be at least 17 years of age at time of admission, and pass the Intermediate Science (10+2) exam in the subjects of physics, chemistry, biology and English. Because of domicile restrictions and a limited number of seats available at each institution (generally varying between 30 to 80 seats), admission into the BVSc & AH is partially based on the applicant’s rank in the annual All India Pre-Veterinary Test, which must be taken as well. Graduating with a Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry may allow you to pursue a career in a number of fields, such as the poultry industry, a job as a veterinary doctor in either a private practice, at a zoological park, in the armed forces, or even in veterinary research.
