D. Y. Patil University was established in the year 2005, in the name of the great educationist Padmashree DR. D. Y. PATIL. It has its sponsoring institution ‘D.Y. Patil Education Society.” The society was established in 1986 and is registered under Societies Registration Act, 1860 bearing no. Maharashtra/3029/86 on 23rd November 1986. The society started its Medical College in 1989, which was initially affiliated to the Shivaji University, Kolhapur and later on affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik. After almost two decades of status as an affiliated college, based on excellent and constant academic performance, a very strong and aesthetic infrastructural system, efficient and transparent governance and distinct potential for future progress, the Department of Secondary and Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development, on the recommendation of University Grants Commission under Section 3 of UGC Act of 1956, vide its Notification No. F.9-26/2004-U-3 dated 1st September 2005, has accorded the Deemed to be University status to D. Y. Patil Education Society consisting of D.Y. Patil Medical College, Kolhapur.

Eligibility Criteria

• For admission in postgraduate and Ph.D. courses such as for admission in M.Sc. in Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine, students must have passed B.Sc. in Botany / Zoology / Microbiology / Biotechnology, MBBS, and BHMS.
• For admission in M.Sc. in Environmental Health Sciences, students must have passed B.Sc. in Chemistry/Botany/Zoology/Microbiology/Biotechnology, Environmental Science, and MBBS.
• For admission in Medical Physics, students must have passed B.Sc. in Physics / Electronics / Chemistry with Physics as subsidiary, A Degree in engineering science with strong physics content, MBBS, DMRD, and DMRT.
• For admission in Ph.D., students must have possess the degree of MD/MS/M.Sc. in related disciplines and for M.Sc. students minimum cut off marks is 55% marks.
• PG Specializations of 18 different courses for 51 seats are available in Dr. D Y Patil Medical College, Kolhapur, Maharashtra. Admissions are based on the competitive entrance examination conducted autonomously by D.Y. Patil Education Society Deemed University.

Admission in PG Course –

For getting admission into PG Diploma, MD & MS Courses in the medical institution, the MBBS graduates have to qualify Common Entrance Test – conducted by D.Y. Patil Education Society Deemed University.

The selection of the students is done based on the ranks obtained in all India Entrance Examination.

Patil Education Society with the aim to provide best quality education in the field of health sciences. Dr. D. Y. Patil Educational Group is well organized, well focused organization in education and health care systems since last three decades and today stands the hallmark in field of education.

In order to undertake the frontier level research in the field of medical science, the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research has been established in the University. There are at present 14 collaborative faculty members and 20 full time research scholars working under difference projects sanctioned by DST, DRDO, CSIR, New Delhi and BRNS, Mumbai. The Centre offers interdisciplinary science research programmes leading to medical research and the Ph.D. awards. To fill up the gap between undergraduate and Ph.D. programme, the University has started two Post Graduate programmes; namely M.Sc. Medical Physics and M.Sc. Stem Cell & Regenerative Medicine. In order to supplement these research activities, the Centre has organized number of national and international conferences and workshops since its establishment.

Facilities and Infrastructure

College campus is spread over 5.5 acres of land. The hospital of college is providing the medical aid to the western part of Maharashtra State, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts of Kokan and some parts of Karnataka State.

College has well-equipped laboratories for non-clinical subjects, well-furnished classrooms, Seminar Halls, Auditorium, Administrative block etc. The laboratories are equipped with modern and advanced equipments.

College has excellent, highly qualified, devoted and dedicated faculty to guide the students even outside the classrooms, laboratories and hospital. To promote research activities and awareness among the faculty, there is an active Staff Research Centre, which discusses current research problems in health science teaching, methodology and emerging areas of research in clinical practices on regular basis.

College library is well-stocked and consists of over 11000 volumes of different disciplines in health sciences. Library has also subscribed to 165 Indian and International journals and 120 e-journals. The Library has 4reading rooms with seating capacity of 200 at a time. The central library is also provided with internet facility for students and the faculty. Each department has its own Departmental Library.

The Medical College also provides separate hostel facilities for boys and girls. Hostels can accommodate 310 boys and 190 girls. Hostels are provided with excellent facilities. Each room is well-furnished and provided with bed, table, chair, ceiling fan and cupboard. Hostels are provided with security, hot water and the safe drinking water and other basic and modern amenities for students.
